   the act of waving (a thing, as boiled rice, salt, pepper, a lamp, a weapon, blood, a sheep's or buffalo's head, etc., etc.) downwards in front of a person or persons, or of the goddess Kāḷi, either to ward off or remove any evil or to create a feeling of satisfaction or pleasure, etc. (Grj. 10, 79 va.; J. 31, 14; My., Te. ನಿವಾಳಿ, ನಿವ್ವಾಳಿ). [ಮನವೈಮ್ಬ ಭಾವವು ಲಿಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯವಾದ ಕಾರಣ ಲಿಂಗಕ್ಕೈ ಗನ್ಧ ಧೂಪ ನಿವಾಳಿಯ ಕೌಡಲಾಗದ Cv. 1011]. ನಿವಾಳಿಗು ತನ್ದ ಬಟ್ಟೈ (for wicks) ಕಚ್ಚಗೈ ಆದರೈ ದಿವಾಳಿಗೆ ಏನು ಮಾಡ್ಯಾನು?(Prvs.). — ನಿವಾಳಿ ತೈಗೈ. = ಇಳಿದೈಗೈ, ನಿವಾಳಿ ಮಾಡು. (My.). — ನಿವಾಳಿಮಾಡು = ನಿವಾಳಿಸು. (My.). ನಿವಾಳಿ ಮಾಡೋಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿ, ದಿವಾಳಿಯಾದ(Prv.). — ನಿವಾಳಿಯ ಬೌಮ್ಮಿ ದೇವಯ್ಯ. N. (Bp. 58, 2).
