   = ಕಿಱು 2, etc.&emdash;/?/ ಎನ್ to utter a shrill cry, as the elephant (C.). /?/ /?/ ಎನ್. = /?/ ಎನ್ 2, to creak, as a door (C.). ಕಿರ್ಗುಟ್ಟು. -ಕುಟ್ಟು. = ಕಿ/?/ಗುಟ್ಟು q. v. (My.; Grj. 1, 103).

   the forty-eighth letter of the alphabet (Śmd. 26-28); it is the final of many words (53. 59. 78. 79. 275. 284. 256), and the initial of some; it changes into ತ್ (215. 282. 285), into ಡ್ (206), into ಟ್ (218), and into ಯ್ (223); replaces the Saṁskṛita ರ್ e. g. in ಱೂಢಿ (in Padmarāja's Sānandacaritra there is also ಧ್ಯಾನಾಱೂಢ/?/), ಕಾಱ, ಗಾಱ; and since about one or two hundred years is represented by ರ್ in the common Kannaḍa language. (see also ಱಣ, ಱಮ್ಭೈ); it is occasionally elided (Śmd. 222. 246. 247); about its representation of the upadhmānīya see o o 2, it forms an auxiliary in ಱ 2.
