   N. of a female demon (rākṣasī), a paramour of Kāma (Mhr.; My.); the hōḷī festival observed on account of her death for the last three or four days terminating with the full moon of the phālguna month when Kāma is burnt in effigy (My.; see ಕಾಮನ ಸುಡುವದು); the red liquid (ಓಕಳಿ) sprinkled at that festival. cf. Sk. ಹೋಲಾಕಾ, ಹೋಲೀ. -ಹೋಳಿಯಾಡು. -ಆಡು. to sprinkle or squirt ōkaḷi upon one another at the hōḷī feast. ಹೋಳಿಯಾಡದಿದ್ದರೈ ಹೋಳಿಗೇ ತಿನ್ನಬಾರದೇ? (Prv.). — ಹೋಳಿಹಬ್ಬ. the hōḷī feast (C.). — ಹೋಳಿಹುಣ್ಣಿವೈ. the full moon of ಫಾಲ್ಗುನ (C.; B. 2, 51; cf. ಕಾಮನ ಹುಣ್ಣುಮೈ).
