Opium creates dullness of mind. 2 (dirt) soot accumulated on the wick ű ದೀಪದ ಮಂಕು ತೆಗೆಯಿರಿ. Remove the soot of the lamp. 3 (fool) obscurity of intellectual perception, confusion of mind, silliness, stupidity

ಕಿಟ್ಟೆಲ್ ನಿಘಂಟು

   dimness (of a light, My.); want of lustre (of precious stones, pearls, gold, etc., My.); obscurity of intellectual perception, confusion of mind, silliness, stupidity, stubbornness (My.; Tu.; Te.; T. ಮಯಕ್ಕ, ಮಯಕ್ಕು T. ಮಜಂಗು, ಮಯಂಗು to be confused, perplexed, bewildered, etc.; ಮಳುಂಗು to lose lustre, grow dim, blunt, dull or stupid = ಮಂಗು see ಮಬ್ಬು cf. ಮಕ, ಮಗ್ಗು 1, ಮಳ್ಗು, ಮಟ 1, ಮಳಿ 2). [Cv. 625]; ಅಂಕದೌಳಾಡುವ ಶಿಶುವಿನ ಮುನ್ನಿನ ಮಂಕಾದ ನುಡಿಗಳನು ಕೇಳುತಲೈ (Dp. 14; Dp. 14, 1.). ಕೌಂಕುಗುರುಳಿನ ರಮ್ಬೈ, ಕಂಕಣವು, ಕಟಿಸೂತ್ರ, ಪಂಕಜಾಗನ್ಧಿಯೈನ ಬೇಡ! ತಾನೌಲಿದ ಮಂಕು ಮಾಣಿಕವು! (Sp.). — ಮಂಕ. -ಅ 3. a confused, stupid man (ಸ್ಥೂಲ, ಜಡ Si. 457; My.). ಅಂಕೈ ತಿಳಿಯದವ ಮಂಕಗಿನ್ತ ಕಡೈ (Prv.). — ಮಂಕಾಗು. -ಆಗು to become dim (as a light, etc.); to become stupid, etc. (My.). — ಮಂಕಾಟ. -ಆಟ stupid or silly behaviour (My.). — ಮಂಕಿ a stupid, silly woman (My.). ಪಂಕಜವಾದರೈ ಮಂಕಿಗೈ ದೌಡ್ಡದೇ? -ಮಂಕೀ ಮಗನಾದರೈ ಸುಂಕ ಕೌಡಬಾರದೇ? (Prvs.). — ಮಂಕು ತಟ್ಟು = ಮಂಕು ಹಿಡಿ (My.). — ಮಂಕು ಬೀಳು = ಮಂಕಾಗು (My.). ಅವನು ಮಂಕು ಬಿದ್ದನು (My.). — ಮಂಕುಬುದ್ಧಿ a dull understanding (My.). — ಮಂಕುಬೂದಿ a powder that confuses the mind, a decoy powder (My.; cf. ಮಚ್ಚು 3). — ಮಂಕು ಮರುಳು dupl.
