   ಪಾಳತ, ಹಾಳಿತ (n.) 1 (propr.) 〈being〉proper, suitable, fit, seeming ű ಯಾವ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದರೂ ಹಾಳತವಾಗಿರಬೇಕು. Whatever work one may do it should be appropriate. 2 (propr.) 〈being〉in proper amount, 〈being〉moderate ű ಮದುವೆ ಖರ್ಚನ್ನು ಹಾಳತವಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. The marriage expenditure should be moderate. 3 (propr.) 〈being〉proportionate ű ಉಪ್ಪಿನ ಕಾಯಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಳಿ, ಉಪ್ಪು, ಕಾರ, ಎಣ್ಣೆಗಳು ಹಾಳತವಾಗಿ ಇರಬೇಕು. [Ingredients like] sour, salty, pungent substances and oil should be in proper proportion in pickles. 4 (ripe)〈being〉overripe (as fruit, etc.) ű ನಿನ್ನೆ ತಂದ ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳು ಇಂದು ಹಾಳತವಾಗಿವೆ. The fruits which were brought yesterday have become overripe.
