   1 (rel.) religious initiation ű ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ ಅಶೋಕನು ವೈರಾಗ್ಯ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ಬೌದ್ಧದೀಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡನು. The emperor Asoka was ordained into Buddhism after renunciation. 2 (rel.) religious vow, observance 3 (prom.) oath, pledge, vow ű ಭೀಷ್ಮ ಆಜನ್ಮ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಚಾರಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ದೀಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಂಡ. Bhishma made a vow to remain unmarried till his last. 4 (work) dedication, consecration ű ಮಹಾತ್ಮಾ ಗಾಂಧಿ ದೇಶಸೇವೆಗಾಗಿ ದೀಕ್ಷೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. Mahatma Gandhi had taken a vow to serve the nation.

   ದೀಕ್ಷಾ. = ದೀಕೆ. preparation or consecration for a religious ceremony; a ceremony preliminary to a sacrifice, initiation, dedication; initiation in the doctrines or mysteries of any sect (or of any art); devotion; the state of not having the head shaved (My.). see ಗರ್ಭ-, ಜಿನ-, ಜೈನ (s. ಜೈನ), ಪಿತೃ-, ಮಾತೃ-, ವಿವಾಹ-, ಶಿವ-, ಶೈವ Cpr. 7, 28; J. 8, 7. ದೀಕ್ಷೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಹೊರ್ತು ಮೋಕ್ಷ ಬರಲಿಲ್ಲ (Prv.). ದೀಕ್ಷೆಗೊಳ್. -ಕೊಳ್ to have oneself initiated, to receive initiation (Abh.
