[ಅರೈಯೇರು ಮಾರಿ ಪಸವಿಳ್ದಿ ಬರಂ ಪೈರವುಂ ಭಯಂಗಳಾಕುಲಿತೈಗಳಿಲ್ಲ Ap. 1, 52; ಬರದ ನಾಡಿನ್ದ ಬನ್ದ ಬಣಗುಗಳನ್ತೈ Cv. 749]; scarcity; emptiness, hollowness; ruin. 2, dry firewood (ಕೃಪೀಟ Nn. 85; T. ವೈರು). ತುರಿಸಿಕೌಣ್ಡರೈ ಬರ ಬಿಟ್ಟೀತೇ? (Prv.). ನೀರ ಬರ, ಮಳೈಯ ಬರ (My.). see Prvs. s. ದಣ್ಡು, ಬರೀ ಮಾತು, ಬಾಯಿ-ಬರಗರುಗು. Garuga that grows in dry places (My.). — ಬರಗಾಲ. -ಕಾಲ a time of famine (My.; ದುರ್ಭಿಕ್ಷ G.; B. 4, 76; 5, 103). ಅಧಿಕಮಾಸ ಬರಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಬನ್ದ ಹಾಗೈ. -ಬನವಾಸೈಗೈ ಹೋದರೂ ಬರಗಾಲ ತಪ್ಪಲಿಲ್ಲ-ಬರುವವರ ಸಂಗಡ ಬನ್ದರೂ ಬರಗಾಲ ತಪ್ಪಲಿಲ್ಲ (Prvs.). — ಬರಗೈಡು to be ruined by want of food or fasting. ಬರಗೈಟ್ಟೈ ಬಡ ಹುಡುಗರು (B. 4, 77). see Prv. s. ಪರ 2. — ಬರನಾಗು-ಆಗು to be ruined or lost (Śśv. 4, 89). — ಬರ ಬರು a famine to happen. ಬರ ಬನ್ದ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೈ ಮಗ ಉಮ್ಬೋಕೈ ಕಲತ (or ಕಲಿತ). — ಬರ ಅನ್ದರೈ ಬಿದರಕ್ಕಿ-ಬರ ಬನ್ದರೈ ಊರ ಬಿಡ ಬಾರದು, ದಣ್ಡು ಬನ್ದರೈ ಊರಲ್ಲಿರಬಾರದು (Prvs.). — ಬರ ಬೀಳು = ಬರ ಬರು (My.; B. 4, 74; 5, 102. 205). — ಬರವರ. -ಬರ. rep. great or complete dryness; so as to become completely dry. ಬರವರ ಬತ್ತೈ (Abh. P. 9, 30). — ಬರವರೌಗು. -ಆಗು to become completely dry (Cpr. 8, 6). — ಬರವೇಳು-ಏಳು = ಬರ ಬರು. (My.). — ಬರಸಿಡಿಲ್-ಲು a dry, or an empty, thunder-bolt, i. e. either one unaccompanied by rain, or one not causing combustion [ಬರ ಸಿಡಿಲೈರಪನ್ತೈರಪ ಸರಲ ಬರವಂ ಕಣ್ಡು Pb. 12, 200; Vr. 36, 24]; (Cpr. 9, 13; Bp. 45, 10; 50, 60; J. 4, 10; 8, 32; Rśv. 8, 105).
